Israeli Company Elbit Systems Unveils New Armed Drone – I24NEWS

The LANIUS drone is designed for covert surveillance and can carry lethal and non-lethal payloads

Israeli company Elbit Systems has unveiled a new unmanned aerial vehicle. The drone, named LANIUS, is a barrage munition for covert surveillance and is designed to operate over short distances. It can be launched manually or from a larger drone.

The new machine can reach speeds of up to 72 km/h and its mass, including the maximum payload, is 1.25 kg. Elbit Systems claims the drone can carry both lethal and non-lethal payloads, without revealing more information, as the drone is intended for military use.

The LANIUS drone can stay in the air for regarding seven minutes and is able to move autonomously, but piloting by an operator is also planned. A software-defined radio channel, or WIFI, is used to establish communication with the device.

The hovering craft is equipped with an NVIDIA Jetson TX2 processor, which is responsible for artificial intelligence (AI) systems. AI helps the drone perform GPS navigation tasks, scan the terrain, and create a three-dimensional map of the environment in complex city environments.
