The chief spokesman for the Israeli army, Admiral Daniel Hagari, said in a post on his official account in “X”: “The IDF was able, under intelligence guidance and using combat aircraft, to eliminate Amr Abu Jala, the commander of the Hamas naval force in Khan Yunis, and another terrorist from The organization’s naval force.
Hagari, who posted a video of the operation targeting Abu Jala, added: “Amr was a senior officer in the naval force, and he participated since the beginning of the fighting in carrying out a number of naval attacks that were thwarted by our forces.”
Israeli forces control part of northern Gaza, where they say they have dismantled tunnels and much of Hamas’ infrastructure there.
The Israeli army also said it had surrounded the Jabalia refugee camp, and called on any residents inside to evacuate on Thursday.
He explained that he was pursuing Hamas fighters in Jabalia, a crowded urban area adjacent to Gaza City, which has been under intense bombardment for weeks.
