A Palestinian teenager was killed by Israeli gunfire near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank on Friday, the Palestinian health ministry said.
“Mostafa Amer Sabah, 16, was killed by (Israeli) occupation bullets in the village of Teqoa“, said the ministry in a press release which does not specify the circumstances of the tragedy.
Contacted by AFP, the Israeli army did not comment on this information immediately. This incident comes the day following the death of another Palestinian shot dead by Israeli soldiers. The army then reported a “attempted vehicular attack” in the northern West Bank, Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has seen a wave of increased violence since January. The death of the teenager on Friday brings to 100 the number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of the year. Nineteen Israelis, a Ukrainian and an Italian were killed during the same period, according to an AFP tally compiled from official Israeli and Palestinian sources. These statistics include, on the Palestinian side, combatants and civilians, including minors, and on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, including minors, and three members of the Arab minority.
