Scientists talk regarding the first documented case of co-infection of a person with HIV, monkeypox and covid. This follows from a report presented by the Journal of Infection on August 24.

The case described concerns a 36-year-old Italian who spent five days in Spain in June. During this leave, he had unprotected sex with other men. Nine days following returning, the patient developed fever, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, and other non-specific symptoms. First, he passed a test for covid, which turned out to be positive. Then the Italian developed rashes on his skin with the formation of pastulas, following which he was hospitalized.

At the hospital, the patient mentioned that he had been ill with syphilis three years ago, in 2021 he took an HIV test, but it was negative. In December last year, the man received two components of the coronavirus vaccine.

The tests also confirmed the presence of the monkeypox virus in the Italian. The HIV test also came back positive.
