Earlier on Friday, the head of the Ministry of Finance announced the dismissal of Piotr Patkowski, former deputy minister of finance in the PiS government, from PAN. Andrzej Domański emphasized that “he does not have the competences necessary to perform this function.”
Piotr Patkowski became the president of the Polish Audit Oversight Agency on November 11, 2023. He replaced Marcin Obroniecki, who resigned before the end of his term. In turn, Patkowski left the Ministry of Finance and the government “quietly” – following the parliamentary elections, and before the first session of the Sejm of the 10th term, his photo, biography and description of the functions held were removed from the ministry’s website.
Piotr Patkowski, a law graduate from UMCS in Lublin, became famous in 2020 when, at the age of 29, he became Deputy Minister of Finance and Chief Spokesman for Public Finance Discipline. At that time, he was one of the youngest members of Mateusz Morawiecki’s government. Patkowski supervised very important departments at the Ministry of Finance: macroeconomic policy and financial market development.
Previously, Piotr Patkowski worked in the political cabinet of Mateusz Morawiecki, when he was still deputy prime minister and minister of development and finance. Then, when Morawiecki became head of government, Patkowski was his advisor. In 2019, he ran for an MP, but did not win a seat.
The Polish Audit Oversight Agency is a relatively “young” institution – it was established at the beginning of 2020 and replaced the Audit Oversight Commission. PANA supervises statutory auditors and audit firms. He ensures that audits of financial statements by statutory auditors are carried out correctly.
