Jack Black is heading back to Studio 8H. The comedian and actor has been tapped to host the April 4 episode of “Saturday Night Live” on NBC, marking his fifth time at the helm of the iconic sketch comedy show. Joining him will be musician Jack White as the musical guest, promising a night of both comedic and musical energy.
The announcement came during the March 14 episode of “SNL,” which featured Harry Styles in a rare double duty as both host and musical guest. Black’s return to the show comes less than a year after his previous hosting gig on April 5, 2025, where he promoted “A Minecraft Movie” with musical guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile. This rapid succession of appearances is a notable shift for Black, whose previous hosting stint was back in 2005.
With this upcoming episode, Black will officially join the esteemed “Five-Timers Club,” a group of celebrated hosts who have graced the “SNL” stage five or more times. He previously appeared on the show as a musical guest with his band Tenacious D in December 2006. Beyond “SNL,” Black is currently enjoying a busy period in his career, with roles in “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and another installment in the popular “Jumanji” franchise on the horizon.
A Stacked Season 51 Lineup
Black’s appearance continues a strong run of hosts for “Saturday Night Live” Season 51. The season kicked off with “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard, accompanied by A$AP Rocky as the musical guest. January saw episodes hosted by Teyana Taylor and Alexander Skarsgård. More recently, Connor Storrie, fresh off the success of the hockey drama “Heated Rivalry,” made his hosting debut on February 28 with Mumford & Sons providing the music. Ryan Gosling then took the stage on March 7, with a special appearance by Styles.
Jack White is no stranger to the “SNL” stage either, having previously served as musical guest in 2002 with The White Stripes and then returning in 2012, 2018, 2020, and 2023, as well as performing at “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.” This upcoming appearance will be his sixth time as musical guest.
Where to Watch
“Saturday Night Live” returns with a modern episode on April 4 on NBC. For those who miss the live broadcast, previous episodes are readily available for streaming on Peacock.
The show’s recent episodes have been praised for regaining momentum, particularly following a period some critics described as a lull. Harry Styles’ recent hosting and musical performance were well-received, building on the success of previous episodes featuring Ryan Gosling and Connor Storrie.
As “Saturday Night Live” continues its 51st season, viewers can anticipate a mix of established stars and rising talents taking on the challenge of hosting and keeping audiences entertained. The show’s ability to adapt and remain relevant in a constantly evolving entertainment landscape remains a key factor in its enduring popularity.
