Jaime García responds to the call from El Deportivo with reluctance. He notices immediately that he is not having a good time. His energy is not the same as the most extroverted side of him, which became his trademark. All the First Division teams hired their respective coaching staffs and he is not on any of them. If from a more neutral perspective it is difficult to explain it to him, considering the performance he achieved with Ñublense, which he even led to the international scene, from an intimate level, the coach still cannot understand why no one called him. He senses it, of course, he is there, but he refuses to accept it. Even more so because of the damage he is convinced they caused him.
At the beginning of September, the Red Devils announced the breakup of a working relationship that seemed poised to be eternal. It lasted five years, a period in which the club returned to the First Division, reconnected with the international level and even changed owners. Profe García, as the fans called him, became, virtually, an icon of the city. When he was fired, his name became a trending topic on social networks, due to the disbelief that the decision generated and the ingratitude that was observed in it. The trust that existed with the previous owners was now gone. Before the end, there were already some signs of the fissure. The crack opened and it was the technician who fell down the cliff.
The fans did not forget him. Hernán Caputto, the heir to the position, suffered it in every duel at Nelson Oyarzún, especially when the level of play and, fundamentally, the results did not match expectations. In December, cornered by fans following the loss to Huachipato, he responded with a harsh attack on his predecessor, mentioned as a paradigm of the style they intended for their squad. “The undisciplined one of (Jaime) García? The one who sucked with the players,” he replied. The record quickly went viral and there were all kinds of reactions. In those couple of seconds, García’s career began to be threatened. The public apologies of the former youth coach were not enough to restore the prestige that had been put at stake.
The damage was already done. García, who was mentioned as a possibility for the seats of the National Team and the U, beyond the fact that the mentions lacked official support, was finally left without directing. “I do not want to speak with anybody. I am sad. I feel bad and disappointed. I am dedicated to my mother and nothing else. She has served me a lot,” he responds at the beginning of the dialogue with El Deportivo, to which he agrees following several insistences.
Does it seem strange to you that, following being the fashion technician, no one has finally called you to offer you a job?
The statistics are there. The process I am in is one of tranquility. I’m not worried regarding football. I tore away a little of everything, because I want to have peace, tranquility. I don’t want to appear in the press, either. I’m disappointed in that. I am happy with my mom. Life gave me my mother, to take care of her. I’m with some friends from Sweden.

How much do you think the words that Caputto said to those Ñublense fans hurt you at work?
I’m not going to talk anything. I’m trying to be well. If everyone is wondering why (he is out of work), so am I. The statistics speak. I can’t take responsibility for what others talk regarding. Soccer is difficult. Being a technician is difficult and there is only one truth. I am a technician who has respected everyone. I am from one line and I respect it. I have done things well, super well.
Do you feel anger towards Caputto?
I’m happy. I try to let it go away. I don’t understand why. In the end, everything balances out. The truth always comes to light. If I had to be like this, respect. If my name was not considered, I respect that too. The reasons must be football. I’m not going to take care of the rest.
What do you think of Caputto?
I’ve never been with him. I don’t have anything bad to say regarding him. It’s not my place to judge anyone. It’s not my place to say anything bad regarding him. I have codes. There is one truth. I sleep peacefully.
And regarding his temporary, inexplicable layoff, in accordance with the performance and expectations that his work had generated?
It will be for the next pass that they take me into consideration. It’s hard, but I don’t have anything bad to say regarding anyone.
Why do you think he fell from grace and was not considered for any bench?
It has happened to me to be so frontal. As long as I don’t disrespect someone and don’t lie, I will remain the same. And more to grow. My way of being is not going to change for money or anything. I look for objectives without attacking or going over anyone. I didn’t hurt anyone. The statistics are there. I contributed something to football. I will never lose what is human. I never disrespected any leader. Since I was a cadet I have acted with high vision. I’m never going to shut up. Mine is impassable. I will always respect my family’s values.
