Jason Bonham Keeps teh Spirit of Led Zeppelin Alive with His Tribute Show
Jason Bonham, son of the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, recently spoke to Terrie Carr of WDHA-FM about his ongoing “Led Zeppelin Evening” tour. The drummer, who had the unique experience of playing with the surviving members of Led Zeppelin in 2007, revealed the therapeutic and fan-driven nature of his tribute show.
“It’s a pinch-yourself moment every time,” Bonham confessed. “It started as a way to get the Led Zeppelin out of me after playing with the real deal. After that amazing experience, it was hard to figure out what came next.” He credits the experience with making him feel truly connected to the band and its legacy.
Initially hesitant about a tribute band, Bonham explained, ”I didn’t want to tarnish that experience.” However, he quickly realized the show wasn’t about him, but about the fans’ shared love for Led Zeppelin. “It’s about our love for dad, me and everyone. We all have stories of what he meant to us.”
Bonham’s “Led Zeppelin Evening” evolved from his earlier “Led Zeppelin experience” project, which began in 2009 as a personal tribute to his father. “It was meant to be my way of expressing my love for music and honoring my dad,” he shared in a 2017 interview.
The overwhelming response from fans solidified Bonham’s commitment, making the project a fan-driven festivity of Led Zeppelin’s music. “It’s not us and them, it’s about the love for Led Zeppelin. it’s grown into a very honest, natural, fan-based show.” He added, “you guys all knew him as Bonzo; I knew him as dad, and there’s a grate interaction.”
Bonham’s “Led Zeppelin Experience” was formed two years after he participated in Led Zeppelin’s historic one-off reunion performance at London’s O2 Arena in tribute to Ahmet Ertegun.

Jason Bonham Honors His Father’s Legacy with Led Zeppelin Evening
Jason bonham, son of the legendary Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, pays homage to his father’s musical legacy with his live show, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening. Released in 2012 as “Celebration Day,” the show is more than just a tribute concert. As Jason himself explained,”We’re not Led Zeppelin. We are fans. We love the music.” He emphasizes the dedication and passion poured into each performance: “We give it 150 percent energy and time to make it as good as we can make it to give people that feeling and make people go back to their youth.” Jason bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening goes beyond simply playing the hits. The setlist includes a mix of iconic Led Zeppelin tracks and rarely performed deep cuts. For this year’s tour, the band has introduced fresh additions like “Friends,” “Achilles Last Stand,” and a unique arrangement of “Dazed And Confused” from the “The Song Remains The Same” concert film. Choosing the songs is a challenge, Jason admits. “There’s more deeper songs — ‘In The Light,’ ‘Friends,’ ‘Four Sticks’ — songs that never got played live and never made it to a Zeppelin show. The list could go on for the more obscure ones that fans like to hear. Of course, we still do ‘Kashmir,’ ‘Stairway To Heaven’ and ‘what Is And What Should Never Be’.We started doing ‘Dancing Days,’ ‘Houses Of The Holy’ and ‘That’s The Way’.” He finds immense satisfaction in performing this music for a passionate audience. “This show is one of the most fun things to do as I get to play all this great music in front of people that really appreciate it.”## Honoring the Legend: An Interview with Jason Bonham
