Jim Farley, the CEO of Ford, decided to go on a journey of regarding 1,700 km with the electric F-150 Lightning pick-up truck. The goal was to better understand the experience of driving more than a thousand kilometers with an electric car. According to the head of the company, people’s fears are unfounded, they are afraid of electric cars because they are stupid. “I learned a lot,” Farley said following the trip, “and I don’t think I’ll ever be afraid of atonomy, because what I saw was really a sick anxiety that had no basis.” According to the top executive of Ford, a company that is losing billions of dollars on electric cars, the majority of motorists are still very ignorant regarding charging, and he openly says: “As we move towards the mainstream, we have to deal with very ignorant customers: a huge human problem we will solve it.” Therefore, Farley adds dejectedly: “We can make as many vehicles as we want, make them profitable, but ultimately people don’t know how to charge them, they don’t know the performance of the vehicle, the real range in low temperatures, the towing…”. In short, electric cars are still a mystery to most people. Jim Farley, following his experience with the F-150 Lightning, also talked regarding how Ford decided to adopt the “Tesla-grip” solution to take advantage of the Supercharger network, which is the most widespread in the world and considered the best in every country they last, at least for now. “I am glad that we have reached an agreement with Tesla. Every Ford employee has been retrofitted, has an adapter and an app on their phone that allows them to connect to the Supercharger network,” he concluded. In recent months, several companies have announced agreements with Elon Musk’s company, including Nissan, Mercedes and Volvo, which will use the NACS adapter from 2025.
