Jing-Zhe Traditions & Shen Yun in Florida | NTD News

St. Petersburg, Florida – Performances by Shen Yun Performing Arts at the Duke Energy Center for the Arts, Mahaffey Theater, from February 6th to 8th, 2026, have been met with widespread acclaim from audience members, who lauded the show’s artistry and its revival of 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture. The performances, which blend classical Chinese dance and music, aim to showcase a heritage largely lost before the advent of communism in China.

Attendees described the show as a uniquely moving experience, praising the seamless integration of music, dance, videography, and animation. The production’s mission to preserve and present traditional Chinese culture resonated deeply with many, offering a glimpse into a rich history and spiritual tradition. The event highlights the growing interest in classical Chinese dance and culture within the United States.

A Fusion of Art Forms

Kim Tice, a music teacher, described the performance as “phenomenal,” emphasizing the connection between the various artistic elements. “The music here is in the connection between the videography and the animation and the dancing, and I imply, I appreciate all the arts and support many areas of the arts. So to see this all put together in a very, very unique way is just fabulous,” she said. The orchestra’s unique combination of classical Western and Eastern instruments was also a point of praise, with audience member Sondra Middlebrooks expressing a desire to have witnessed the orchestra perform independently. She noted, “The music was wonderful.”

The artistry extended beyond the performance itself, with Bob Swick, a charity foundation founder, stating, “I’m walking on air, I can’t secure enough words out. The beauty, the whole choreography, it is just so beautiful. I loved this performance. I’ve been wanting to reach here for many years, and this just was absolutely beautiful.” Middlebrooks added that the colors used in the production were “so impressive” and effectively drew the audience into the performance.

Themes of Spirituality and Kindness

Beyond the technical artistry, many audience members were moved by the underlying themes of spirituality and kindness woven throughout the performances. These values, deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture, resonated with attendees like Swick, who observed, “I just saw so much beauty. There is so much love of God and love of good over evil.” Shen Yun’s performances aim to present these core values, offering a positive and uplifting experience for audiences.

Daniel Middlebrooks, a retired U.S. Army chaplain, highlighted the foundational role of the musicians, stating, “They provided a foundation to which the movements of the dancers could stand upon. It was incredible.” This underscores the collaborative nature of the production and the importance of each artistic element in creating a cohesive and impactful performance.

Shen Yun’s Continued Tour

The Florida performances are part of Shen Yun’s ongoing tour, which includes stops in Rhode Island, Sicily, and Taiwan, as documented in recent tour photos. The company continues to bring its unique blend of artistry and cultural preservation to audiences around the globe. The Traditions & Customs of the Solar Term, Jing-Zhe are also being highlighted during these performances.

As Shen Yun continues its 2026 tour, audiences can anticipate a captivating experience that celebrates the beauty and depth of traditional Chinese culture. The company’s commitment to reviving this heritage through classical Chinese dance and music ensures that these ancient traditions will continue to inspire and uplift audiences for years to come.
