Archyde: Firstly, João, congratulations on your amazing ascent in the tennis world. How does it feel to be Brazil’s highest-ranked player, and to have achieved so much in such a short time?
João Fonseca: Its honestly still surreal. A year ago, I couldn’t have imagined reaching this level so quickly.To see the support from Brazil,from children cheering for me… it gives me a lot of strength and motivation.
Archyde: Your win over Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open was a significant moment for you and for Brazilian tennis. Can you tell us about the emotions you experienced during that match?
João Fonseca: It was exceptional. Obviously, I was very nervous playing against such a top player, but I had prepared well for the match. To win against him was an incredible feeling, and it gave me a lot of confidence moving forward.
Archyde: Your naturally-notable talent is supported by a tremendous work ethic. What drives you to consistently improve and push boundaries?
João Fonseca: I have a deep passion for the game, and I truly love the process – the daily training, the planning leading up to a match. I also want to inspire the next generation of Brazilian tennis players, showing them that anything is absolutely possible with the right dedication.
Archyde: The Rio Open, now aadle [sic], is a tournament you’ve been a part of since your amateur days. What makes this event special for you?
João Fonseca: The Rio open holds a unique place in my heart. I’ve seen many of my idols play here, and now to be playing here as a professional, representing Brazil, is an immense honor.
Archyde: Lastly,João,as the weight of expectation grows,how do you maintain your focus and keep improving?
João Fonseca: I try to stay grounded and remember why I started playing tennis in the first place – for the love of the game. I have a great team around me, and we work together to set goals and build strategies to continually improve.
