The construction industry in Canada continues to lose jobs across the country, with a loss of more than 40,000 positions in the month of July 2023, according to a study.

“The number of jobs in this environment has decreased by 45,000 [-2,8 %] in July, following a smaller drop of 14,000 [-0,8 %] in June. Since January 2023, the number of jobs in construction has fallen by 71,000,” said Statistics Canada’s Labor Force Survey.

The increasing number of retirees might make the situation worse, according to Canadian media Global News.

The vacancy rate for construction jobs has also reached an all-time high, with around 80,000 vacancies in the sector, said Benjamin Tal, CIBC’s deputy chief economist, in a note received by Global News. .

The media also claims that the construction sector has lost more jobs than the majority of sectors, such as administration, information and transport.
