PRESIDENT Joko Widodo and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong agreed on three collaborations. According to International Relations observer from Padjadjaran University, Teuku Rezasyah, these three have not fully benefited Indonesia.

“These three agreements have gone through a long and lengthy process. These agreements represent the highest achievement in state relations between Jokowi and Lee Hsien Loong,” he said to Media Indonesia, Saturday (24/3).

According to him, these three cooperation agreements are not ideal. Because there is still Indonesian airspace around Batam which is still controlled by Singapore.

However, strategically for Singapore, he said, achieving results from the current negotiations is very important. “Because if it is postponed, it will be more complicated to negotiate with the Indonesian head of state who has a military background,” he concluded.

The three collaborations were conveyed through a telephone conversation between Jokowi and Lee, which was released by the Singapore Embassy in Indonesia on Friday (22/3). The agreement discusses, among other things, expanding the framework in 2022 regarding the re-arrangement of the borders of the Aviation Information Area (FIR), a fugitive extradition agreement in 2022 and a defense cooperation agreement in 2007.
