Jon Bernthal is set to create a significant return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Frank Castle, The Punisher, and his upcoming Disney+ special presentation is poised to break records. A listing on the Writers Guild of America (WGA) website reveals the special will run for a full 60 minutes, making it the longest Marvel Studios Special Presentation to date, exceeding previous specials like Werewolf by Night (53 minutes) and Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (42 minutes).
Bernthal’s reprisal of the role, initially made famous in the Netflix series Daredevil and its spin-off The Punisher, comes after his reintroduction to the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again. This new special, co-written by Bernthal himself and director Reinaldo Marcus Green, promises an extended narrative for the vigilante, diverging from the shorter format of previous Marvel specials.
