AMMAN, July 22 (Xinhua) — The Jordanian Foreign Ministry on Saturday condemned the burning of a copy of the Quran, Islam’s holy book, in the Danish capital Copenhagen on Saturday.

Calling the act an “act of hatred and a form of Islamophobia” in a statement that incites violence once morest religions, the Jordanian ministry also reiterated its criticism and rejection of such irresponsible acts that anger Muslims, fuel hatred and threaten peaceful coexistence.

The Jordanian ministry accordingly called for efforts to prevent the recurrence of such acts by enacting laws that criminalize extremism, religious hatred and the desecration of religious symbols and sanctities, while promoting peace, harmony, tolerance and acceptance of others.

On Friday, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry had already summoned the Swedish charge d’affaires following a recent desecration of the Koran in the Swedish capital Stockholm. END
