The former president’s lawyers argued that a “special supervisor,” who is an independent lawyer or a former judge, was necessary to ensure independent review of the records seized in the August 8 raid. Such a review is pertinent, they added, so that any personal information or documents are returned to Trump and so that any documents covered by attorney-client privilege are protected and separated from the rest of the investigation.
