Justice orders Fun Radio to pay more than 10 million euros to the NRJ group for having manipulated the Médiamétrie audiences in an unfair way (Press release)

Justice condemns Fun Radio to pay more than 10 million euros to the NRJ group for having manipulated the Médiamétrie hearings in an unfair way. Fun Radio had been accused for several years by its competitors of having manipulated audience measurements through messages from presenters on the air in 2016. The presenters of its morning show had thus encouraged listeners to favor Fun in the polls . The case has been called by some “the biggest scandal in radio history.” »

Fun Radio had been accused by five competing radio groups (NRJ Group, Lagardère, Skyrock, Les Indés Radio and NextRadioTV) of having inflated its audience measurements by advising its listeners to lie to Médiamétrie investigators. After investigation, the institute decided not to publish the radio audience results for the second quarter and the summer period, and to correct the first quarter measurements, decisions that the Court of Appeal validated.

The station’s rivals sought heavy penalties, including damages of more than €20 million.

Fun had defended itself by pleading the humor of its animators, and by limiting the number and scope of the messages in question. She believes that if her audience has increased, it is thanks to her strategy.
