The Kadetten Schaffhausen were eliminated from the European League on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, following a narrow 29-30 defeat at home against Fredericia HK. A draw would have been sufficient for the Swiss team to advance to the round of sixteen.
Schaffhausen started strongly, taking a 4-1 lead in the 6th minute. They last held a lead at 10-9 in the 19th minute. The game remained closely contested, but the Kadetten began to fall behind in the 40th minute, trailing 17-19 – the first time they were down by two goals. They remained at a disadvantage for the remainder of the match. With just over three minutes remaining, Fredericia led 27-30, a deficit that proved insurmountable.
Despite briefly closing the gap to 29-30, the Kadetten only regained possession with four seconds left on the clock, too late to mount a successful comeback. According to the official Kadetten Schaffhausen website, this marks a “bitter” exit from the competition.
The Kadetten recorded more saves (13-10) than their opponents, with goalkeeper Moreno Car making twelve saves. Odin Rikhardsson and Ariel Pietrasik were the primary scoring threats for Schaffhausen, contributing eight and seven goals respectively, accounting for more than half of the team’s total.
The Kadetten had previously won the first leg of the tie away against Fredericia with a score of 32-30, making their elimination all the more disappointing. The team, coached by Hrvoje Horvat, are currently preparing for their next Quickline Handball League match against RTV 1879 Basel on March 15th, as per the Kadetten Schaffhausen schedule.
The Kadetten Schaffhausen have a distinguished record in Swiss handball, having won the national championship 15 times, most recently in 2025. They have likewise secured 11 cup titles and 16 Supercup victories. Their next home game is scheduled against RTV 1879 Basel at the BBC Arena in Schaffhausen.
