King Charles’ speech on the occasion of the anniversary of the British commonwealth was broadcast on video and it was the first time he spoke to the British people following his diagnosis with cancer.
The video may have been regarding the celebration, but the monarch wanted to send a message of optimism, especially following Kate Middleton’s health ordeal. However, some argue that it achieved the opposite effect.
According to entertainmentdaily.com, in the video message he appeared quite depressed and red-eyed, with some saying it was “the first time I’ve seen him this sick”.
In his 615-word speech, the monarch said: “Having recently celebrated my 75th birthday, it warms my heart to think how the Commonwealth has been a constant throughout my life – a precious source of strength, inspiration and of pride”. The British king will add: “For the past few weeks I have been touched by your thoughts and wishes for my health, and I for my part can continue to serve you to the best of my ability.”
