Kasper Schmeichel replaced Maxime Dupé between the poles this Sunday, and probably for the weeks to come. Brian Riemer clarified the situation.
Is this finally the end of the Dupé/Schmeichel debate? Without much surprise, the Danish goalkeeper seems to have won the “duel” of the goalkeepers at RSC Anderlecht. Brian Riemer had assured that he would make a choice, and did so in favor of his compatriot. “We wanted to see Kasper in action. He was delayed by a minor injury. Maxime had 7 games to show himself,” said the Danish coach.
“But it’s not a decision sealed forever! Today, Schmeichel is on goal, but I take into account the tactical aspects of each match,” assures Riemer, without convincing anyone it must be admitted.
The timing of this decision, from Schmeichel’s first selection in the group and just following a big mistake from Dupé, may also be surprising because we have the impression that Riemer seized the first opportunity to replace the Frenchman.
“I don’t know any player who thinks it’s the right time to be on the bench. There is no good or bad timing,” says a slightly annoyed Brian Riemer. “Everyone is in the same boat. Maxime is a top professional and gives everything to support the team and Schmeichel.”
