Kate Middleton: “Huge own goal” say experts after her photo fiasco | World: News and News from around the World – 2024-03-15 16:34:45

Kensington Palace is under increasing pressure to release the original photo of Princess of Wales Kate Middleton and her three children, the first since abdominal surgery, following the Princess of Wales admitted today (11/03/2024) that she had edit family photo.

As it turned out, the photo, which was released on the occasion of Mother’s Day, had been edited and for this reason it was gradually withdrawn by the major news agencies that published it.

At the same time, a new snapshot of Kate Middleton and Prince William leaving Windsor Castle has surfaced.

In the photo we see the profiles of Prince William and Kate Middleton who are looking the other way so that the paparazzi don’t photograph them.

Public relations experts described the fiasco as a “massive own goal” and urged Palace officials to release the authentic image in an attempt to regain public confidence, but the Palace has refused.

What exactly is going on with the wife of the heir to the British throne? And why did the Palace release a leaked photo?

Let’s start things from the beginning…

On Sunday 10.03.2024 Kensington Palace published a photo of Kate Middleton posing for the camera with her three children only for major news outlets to notice that it was altered in several places.

Getty, Associated Press, Reuters and AFP announced that they had withdrawn the particular photo of Kate Middleton, with Kate Middleton taking matters into her own hands and publicly admitting that the photo is not authentic and that she is responsible for the minor alterations.

Kate Middleton this morning admitted she “often experiments with photo editing” and apologized “for any confusion” she had caused.

“Like many amateur photographers, I often experiment with photo editing. I want to apologize for any confusion caused with the family photo we posted on Sunday. I hope everyone is having a very happy Mother’s Day,” Kate Middleton said in a statement.

The photo of the Princess of Wales with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis was the first official photo of the princess to be released since she underwent “scheduled abdominal surgery” on January 16.

Earlier, users on social media had spotted glaring errors in Kate Middleton’s photo.

They found that the zipper on Kate’s jacket has been tampered with, Charlotte’s hair seems to end somewhat abruptly at her shoulder, her skirt and knee are somewhat teased.

And the alterations don’t end there: The design of Prince Louis’ sweater has been modified on the sleeve, as has his right hand, where his fingers are somewhat unnaturally tangled.

As for Kate herself, her right hand is blurry while her sweater is not, while her hair appears to be blurry on the right, while once more the sweater looks “clean.” She is also not wearing Princess Diana’s sapphire ring that always adorns her hand.

Other users have questioned whether the photo was taken in Florida as March is not sunny in Britain, but whether it was taken in 2024.

PR expert Mark Borkowski said: “It makes sense that he’s at home playing on the computer and using an AI tool, but if they’re really going to gain any kind of trust, they’re going to have to release the original photo, it can’t be that bad if they just made a few tweaks.”

Mark Borkowski goes on to say that today’s uproar shows that there is a public relations problem for the monarchy:

“That’s the thing, there doesn’t seem to be a unified strategic thinking at the heart of the royal family at the moment, which leads to them having problems where it’s very difficult for an organization to manage from a public relations perspective.”

And he added that this is a nightmare.

“They’re under pressure, massive pressure, that’s a huge own goal.”

Royal sources stressed that this was “an amateur, family photograph taken by the Prince of Wales”. It is understood it was snapped in Windsor last week.

The controversy is set to overshadow the ceremony at Westminster Abbey for today’s Commonwealth Day, one of the monarchy’s big annual appointments.

Active members of the royal family, who are not experiencing health problems, are expected there, including Queen Camilla and Prince William.

King Charles will not be attending as he continues treatment for cancer. Visibly overwhelmed on Monday followingnoon (11/3/24), King Charles made his first speech.

Graham Smith, the chief executive of the anti-monarchy group Republi said: “Kate’s statement doesn’t answer any questions. We can all see that the photo has been edited. The question is why? Why haven’t they released the original photo?’

He also said that this whole approach shows a general disregard for the public.

Royal author Omid Scobie accused the Palace of having a “long history of lying” and said regaining public trust was now “a nearly impossible task”.

The royal writer wrote to X that if it was an isolated incident, it was an “unfortunate mistake”.

He added: “But with the Palace’s long history of lying, covering up and even issuing statements on behalf of family members without their (Mr. Prince Harry’s) permission, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for the public to believe a word and now photo.

Kate Middleton is known to love taking pictures and revealed in 2021 that she takes a lot of family photos, causing her children to sometimes react and say, “Mom, please stop taking pictures.”
