Ione Skye, known for her roles in iconic 1980s films, has opened up about her experiences wiht keanu Reeves during the filming of the 1986 crime drama, River’s Edge.In her new memoir, Say Everything: A Memoir, Skye recounts having a “huge crush” on Reeves, which led to several awkward yet memorable encounters.
The On-Set Attraction
Skye describes feeling intensely drawn to Reeves, admitting she found him “hard not to stare at.” This attraction reportedly led to her “stalking” him in his trailer, eager to spend time with the young actor.
An Unexpected Visit and Shower Encounter
One particular incident stands out in Skye’s recollection.Believing Reeves reciprocated her feelings, she visited him at his studio apartment. However, her advances were met with resistance. as Skye describes in her book, when she tried to kiss him,Reeves announced he was going to shower. Undeterred, Skye followed him:
“Keanu turned on the water and stood with his back to me, hand in the stream, staring up at the showerhead. I maneuvered between him and the open shower curtain, water spraying my back. His beautiful neck was right there, so close I could lick it, so I did. I zeroed in on his beautiful throat, sucking and making out with it. He made a low, growly noise and I felt my stomach turn nicely. ‘Oh,’ I heard myself say. The room was thick with steam, my wet T-shirt sticking to me, wanting to be peeled off.”
The situation escalated when Skye reached for his buckle, at which point Reeves stopped her, stating he “didn’t think he wanted to.”
“I broke out with a fast, shocked laugh.’Sorry!'” she wrote. “‘No, don’t be,’ said Keanu, releasing my wrist. We were still stuck together, breathing hard. I pressed my face, red from the kiss and now embarrassment, into his chest.”
Despite the awkwardness, Skye notes that Reeves, who was six years her senior, handled the situation with kindness.
“‘Let me, ah, get you a dry shirt,'” he offered.
Skye reflected on the encounter, thinking, “Damn. Even the way he’d rejected me was charming.”
Awkwardness and a Sex Scene with Raw Onions
Skye admits that things were “only a little awkward on set the next day. Without saying anything, Keanu let me know he didn’t blame me for trying.” This wasn’t the only memorable incident.During the filming of a sex scene, Reeves had inadvertently eaten raw onions beforehand.
“Careful not to let my hair fall over my face, I straddled Keanu and kissed him for real, moving around, parts to parts, missing sometimes and grinding on his leg or stomach,” Skye wrote.afterward, they “pulled apart,a little bashful,a little breathless. ‘You good?’ said Keanu, and I sensed by the husky edge to his voice that it wasn’t just me who wanted more. Tracing my lips to the side of his face, I whispered, ‘can I come to your place after wrap?'”
This visit also ended abruptly when Reeves offered to drive her home.
Reflection and Retrospection
Looking back, Skye realizes her infatuation was just a crush. By the time she filmed her signature movie, Say Anything, she had come to a realization: “I’d thought I loved Keanu, but that was just a crush, in retrospect.”
The Enduring Impact of Early hollywood Experiences
Skye’s reflections offer a glimpse into the complex dynamics of young actors navigating early fame and attraction on set. These experiences, while sometimes awkward, shape their personal and professional trajectories, leaving lasting impressions that are now being shared with the world.

Ione Skye Reflects on Keanu Reeves Crush in New memoir: An exclusive Interview
Ione Skye’s new memoir, “Say Everything,” unveils intimate stories from her early Hollywood experiences, including a memorable “huge crush” on Keanu Reeves during the filming of “River’s Edge.” Archyde’s film critic, Eleanor Vance, sat down with Skye too discuss these revelations and what they mean in retrospect.
Early Hollywood and First impressions
Eleanor Vance: Ione, thank you for joining us at Archyde. “Say Everything” is incredibly candid. Let’s dive right in. “River’s Edge” was a pivotal film for both you and Keanu Reeves. What were your initial impressions of him?
Ione Skye: Thanks for having me, Eleanor! Keanu was… otherworldly. There’s no other way to put it. he had this quiet intensity that was captivating. He was also incredibly kind, even as a young actor navigating a elaborate world.
The “Huge Crush” and Awkward Moments
Eleanor Vance: You wriet about having a “huge crush” and some slightly awkward encounters, including the infamous shower scene. Looking back, how do you perceive those moments now?
Ione Skye: (Laughs) Oh, the shower scene! Youthful exuberance, I suppose! Honestly, reliving it through the memoir was a journey in itself. I see it now as a testament to Keanu’s grace and patience. He handled a very excited—perhaps overzealous—teenage admirer with remarkable kindness.
Onions and On-Screen Passion
Eleanor Vance: another memorable anecdote involves raw onions during a sex scene.Film sets are often bizarre places. How did you navigate those potentially uncomfortable situations?
Ione Skye: The onion incident! It was definitely a… pungent experience. You learn to compartmentalize. As an actor, you have to commit to the scene, even if your co-star smells strongly of onions. It’s all part of the job! We both just laughed it off.
Beyond the crush: Retrospection and Growth
Eleanor Vance: You mention realizing later that your feelings were “just a crush.” How did understanding that shift your outlook on your early Hollywood experiences?
Ione Skye: It allowed me to appreciate the innocence of it all.It wasn’t this grand, earth-shattering love. It was a young girl admiring a talented guy in a very intense surroundings. Recognizing that helped me appreciate the friendships and lessons I gained during that period.
Keanu Reeves’ Reaction Today?
Eleanor Vance: Have you ever spoken with Keanu about these experiences as? What do you think his reaction might be to reading them in your memoir?
Ione skye: We haven’t spoken specifically about “River’s Edge” recently, no. I hope he’ll take it in the spirit it’s intended – a fond, albeit slightly embarrassing, memory from our youth. Knowing Keanu, I suspect he’ll find the humor in it, too. He’s always been good-natured.
The Enduring Impact of Early Fame
Eleanor Vance: What do you hope readers take away from “Say Everything,” especially regarding the trials and tribulations of young actors in Hollywood’s spotlight?
Ione Skye: I hope it offers a glimpse behind the curtain. Hollywood can be both alluring and incredibly challenging. It’s a reminder that everyone, even those on screen, are navigating their own journeys, making mistakes, and learning along the way. Early fame throws a huge wrench into the normal coming of age process.
