Rising star Callie Cooke, recently recognized for her role in Brad Pitt’s F1, is set to co-star alongside Keanu Reeves in Warner Bros.’ upcoming action film. The project, currently untitled but previously known as Shiver, began production this week and promises a high-octane blend of suspense and thrills.
Cooke will play a scientist in the film, which centers around a smuggler (Reeves) caught in a dangerous time loop after a double-cross during a Caribbean Sea operation. The narrative, described as having echoes of Edge of Tomorrow and The Shallows, will spot Reeves’ character navigating a treacherous landscape filled with mercenaries and sharks. The film is being directed by Tim Miller, known for his work on Deadpool, and written by Ian Shorr.
The production is currently utilizing extensive water tanks in the Dominican Republic to recreate sea-based sequences, with plans to move to the United Kingdom for further filming. Joining Reeves and Cooke are Nicholas Duvernay, Steven Waddington, Abraham Popoola, Bobby Holland Hanton, and Anastasia Safonov, rounding out a dynamic cast.
Cooke’s recent work includes a guest appearance opposite Ncuti Gatwa in the BBC/Disney+ series Doctor Who in 2024, and a role in the BBC comedy Cheaters. Her performance as a pit crew member in F1 garnered attention for its portrayal of the high-pressure environment of Formula One racing. Duvernay recently appeared in the third season of the Emmy-nominated HBO series The White Lotus and the Peacock drama Bel-Air, and is slated to star in Universal’s Reminders of Him and Amazon/MGM’s The Love Hypothesis. Waddington currently stars in Robin Hood for Lionsgate TV/MGM+, while Popoola’s credits include Slow Horses and Atlas. Hanton is known for his stunt work in films like Thor: Love and Thunder, and Safonov appears in the upcoming features Eternity and Floating Carousel.
A Rising Star Joins a Blockbuster Lineup
The addition of Cooke to the cast signals a continued upward trajectory for the actress, who is quickly becoming a sought-after talent in the industry. Her ability to portray both vulnerability and determination, as demonstrated in F1, makes her a compelling choice for the role of the scientist in this action-packed thriller. The film’s producers include Matthew Vaughn, Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, and John Zaozirny, with Scott Lumpkin serving as executive producer.
Production Details and Release Date
Filming is well underway, with the Dominican Republic providing a realistic backdrop for the film’s aquatic sequences. The film’s plot, involving a time loop and a deadly double-cross, promises a complex and engaging narrative. The combination of Reeves’ established action star power and Cooke’s emerging talent, coupled with Miller’s directorial vision, suggests a film that will appeal to a broad audience.
