Kelly: well, the choice was ours this time. The men had picked japan for season three. For this season, the women got to decide, and I’ve always had a soft spot for Australia.Back in 1998, I spent over six months working there, and it was a life-changing experiance. I was planning to return one day, but life had other plans—like meeting Sam and starting a family. So, when the prospect arose to visit Australia with my family, I jumped at it.
Interviewer: that must have been a fantastic way to reconnect with a significant chapter of your life. How was the experience with the whole family?
Kelly: It was truly magical. Australia offers such a diverse range of landscapes and experiences. We went from the bustling streets of Sydney to the serene beauty of the Great Barrier Reef. Seeing Australia through the eyes of my kids was astounding,and the memories we made will stay with us forever.
Interviewer: The visuals this season are certainly stunning. But there’s also a sense of uncertainty hanging over the future of ‘Expedition Gooris.’ You mentioned that this trip was one of four family vacations you planned. Now that Shania has graduated,could this be the last season with the Gooris family together?
Kelly: (Sighs) I’ve been very open about that. The plan was to take four vacations together, but with Shania now graduated and starting her career, things are changing. Our family dynamics are evolving, and we’ll have to see how it goes from here. I hope we can continue our adventures together, but it might look different going forward.
Interviewer: Understanding your family’s evolution is something many viewers can relate to. Speaking of changes, you’ve mentioned in the past how ‘Expedition Gooris’ has been a journey of growth for you and your family. Can you share a moment from this season that illustrates that growth?
Kelly: There was a moment when we were camping in the Outback,and we had a flat tire. It was dark, and we were isolated, and I could feel the panic starting to rise. But Sam and the kids took charge, and we worked together to fix the tire. In that moment,I saw how much we’ve all grown and how capable we are when we support each other.
Interviewer: that’s a powerful exmaple. Now, if this indeed proves to be the last season with the Gooris family together, what would you like viewers to take away from your journey?
Kelly: I hope they see the importance of creating moments and memories with your family, even—and sometimes especially—when you’re navigating challenges or changes. Our journeys might look different from season to season, but at the core, it’s about growing together and cherishing every moment.
