New York: Ken Mathew, a Malayali, has become the first Indian-American to be sworn in as the Mayor of Stafford, Texas State, USA. He defeated incumbent Mayor Cecil Willis by 16 votes.

Ken Mathew was a former Councilor for Stafford City. Missouri City Mayor Robin Ellacott, who is also Indian-American, administered the oath of office to him at a special event attended by family members and top officials. He is the first Indian to be elected to this post in Stafford’s 67-year history.

Matthew has also served on Stafford’s Planning and Zoning Commission and was elected to Stafford Council in 2006. After graduating from Bombay University in the 1970s, he joined the U. Migrated to S.
