Kenyan President William Ruto expressed his confidence that Africa has the capacity to meet all energy needs with renewable resources and to help other regions do the same.

This came during the opening of the “Africa Climate Summit” today, Monday, at the Kenyatta International Conference Center in Nairobi, according to a newspaper The Star Kenyan.

Roto said that renewable energy resources are not just an environmental necessity but also a catalyst for social and economic prosperity, and this is done by stimulating sustainable development, driving economic growth, providing job opportunities, and lifting citizens out of energy poverty, and it has the ability to do all these things while reducing emissions. carbon in Africa and the world.

He stressed that the continent has sufficient potential to achieve complete self-sufficiency with a mixture of wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, sustainable biomass and hydroelectric energy, and it can be a green industrial center that helps other regions achieve their “net zero” strategies by 2050.

And that this can be achieved thanks to the sunshine almost throughout the year, which makes the potential of solar energy in Africa well suited to the demand for industrial energy.

He pointed out that there is a challenge represented in bridging the investment gap to enable the continent to meet its energy needs, noting that nearly 600 million Africans lack electricity, while 150 million others suffer from unreliable energy sources, and regarding a billion people cannot afford it. Get clean cooking power.

“But our abundance of renewable resources, the potential offered by new technologies and the opportunities offered by new climate finance offer enormous potential, and we have the potential to deliver reliable and cost-effective energy to all Africans by 2030,” Ruto continued.
