“Kenyan President William Ruto and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Discuss Ways to Mitigate Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan”

The humanitarian situation in Sudan was the focus of a telephone call on Monday between Kenyan President William Ruto and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

During this interview, Messrs. Ruto and Blinken discussed ways out of the crisis, Kenya’s State House said, adding that the talks focused on mitigating the humanitarian crisis.

In a statement, the State House said that the Kenyan President expressed his gratitude to the United States and Saudi Arabia for their role in bringing regarding a ceasefire between the parties to the conflict, saying that Nairobi will focus its efforts on alleviating the humanitarian crisis.

“Kenya will work closely with UN agencies and other organizations to coordinate, scale up and deliver humanitarian assistance to the people of Sudan,” he said, noting that “the ceasefire will ensure that humanitarian operations go unhindered”.

For his part, Blinken reiterated U.S. support for collective international action to end the fighting in Sudan and ensure unimpeded humanitarian access.

He stressed Washington’s support for the efforts led by the African Union for an immediate de-escalation, noting the importance of continued cooperation to encourage the parties to the conflict to respect the ceasefire and to begin negotiations to a lasting resolution to the conflict.
