RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Oct. 30, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In a historic achievement, the team at the Organ Transplant Center of Excellence (OTCoE) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center (KFSH&RC) successfully performed the first fully robotic transplant liver transplantation in the world in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – an achievement that solidifies KFSH&RC’s position as a global leader in minimally invasive transplant surgery.

KFSH&RC’s pioneering approach employed cutting-edge robotic technology to perform donor and recipient surgeries with precision and minimal invasiveness, eliminating the need for a hybrid approach. While other centers offer minimally invasive liver transplants using mixed techniques, KFSH&RC is the only center that has successfully performed fully robotic living donor liver transplant surgery.

This achievement represents a significant leap in the history of transplantation, a testament to the center’s commitment to advanced practices that enhance health care outcomes, enhance the patient experience and increase the hospital’s operational efficiency. This all also led to a reduction in the risk of complications, recovery time and hospital stay.

As a strategic healthcare partner at the Global Health Exhibition held in Riyadh from 29 to 31 October, KFSH&RC presents its latest innovations at the forum. Attendees will gain insights into OTCoE’s expertise in applying cutting-edge technologies to expand healthcare possibilities.

KFSH&RC has set records in successfully performing reciprocal kidney transplants, a medical approach that facilitates simultaneous kidney transplants between two donors from different families. In 2022, the program achieved a notable milestone by completing 91 reciprocal transplants, surpassing its international counterparts.

KFSH&RC’s OTCoE is a pioneer in the Kingdom, with one of the most advanced and comprehensive multi-organ transplant facilities in the Middle East. Its services encompass kidney, liver, lung, pancreas and intestinal transplants, collectively called solid organ transplants.

KFSH&RC is recognized worldwide for its contributions to specialized healthcare, commitment to innovation, and dedication to advanced medical research and education. Additionally, KFSH&RC is firmly committed to developing medical technologies that raise the standard of healthcare around the world through collaborations with leading local, regional and international institutions. And also a commitment to the delivery of clinical, research and educational services around the world.
