Kleinarl: Hikers in sneakers got stuck in the snow and triggered an action

The couple from Salzburg wanted to go to the Tappenkarsee. But on the way they lost their way and got stuck in the snow.

On Friday followingnoon, two hikers got into an alpine emergency. A 29-year-old and a 23-year-old came off the marked path in the direction of Tappenkarsee. The pair climbed 1,800 meters above sea level and ended up getting stuck in waist-deep snow.

They alerted 911. A police helicopter team was able to find the two hikers from Salzburg and rescue them with a rope. They were brought down unharmed. According to the police, both wore only light hiking clothing and sneakers. Nine mountain rescuers, three police officers and a police helicopter were deployed.
