Barça could resume the championship on September 27 against Villarreal without Ronald Koeman. According to reports from Cadena Cope radio, the Dutch coach has not yet received permission to sit on the club bench in an official match.
The Spanish federation (RFEF) has not yet been able to process the case of the new technician since Barça has not finalized the contract of his predecessor, Quique Setien. The latter was dismissed from his post after the humiliation suffered against Bayern Munich (8-2) in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Setien wants to get paid the last year he had left in his contract. In the absence of an agreement, it is therefore impossible for the Spanish authorities to officially register Koeman as a new coach. There are still ten days to settle this matter before the championship resumes.
Lionel Messi’s teammates started their preparation with two friendly wins, including one on Wednesday against Gijon (3-1). The Argentinian also scored a double while Philippe Coutinho opened the scoring.
