The brand new Lido Sounds Festival in Linz presented itself on the opening day with a variety of wonderful artists!
Discovering new festivals is always a very exciting thing, following all you don’t know what the conditions are like. Arrival, area, meals, departure? How would all of these things work out? Luckily, I’ve been to Linz several times and at least knew where the city’s parking garages were. Unfortunately, public arrival and departure was not possible for us due to the price and inflexibility.
So we drove leisurely to Linz on that Friday, and when it was raining like crazy somewhere outside Linz, we were a bit afraid of having a completely rainy day. But when we arrived in Linz the sun was shining, so everything was fine! The band distribution and the entrance were a bit difficult, I really didn’t expect all the visitors to arrive at the same time. and so we stood in line and missed “danger dan”. But that’s how it is.
at least we got there in time.”lou asril“The one on the ahoy!” pop stage played music in the tent. and from that point on I was very impressed – it was a very good concert tent and the light was incredibly effective. Lou Asril sang his way smoothly into the hearts of the visitors in the most beautiful atmosphere – that was nice!
We explored the area a bit, most of which was just very hot asphalt ground. But at least there were free drinking water points, which I found to be very important given the very high temperatures. We examined the food stalls and because I didn’t know whether there would be time for a meal break later, we treated ourselves to a snack straight away. After all, the day was still long!
Afterwards we strolled to the large main stage, because “my ugly clementine“We were next in line. and the stage was really huge! oof! When My Ugly Clemetine started their set, they almost went under a bit. But only almost – with their wild headbanging and their very good numbers, they quickly made you forget everything around them. My personal highlight was actually the cover of “What’s Up” – that was unexpected and very, very intense! Overall a very good performance – my ugly clementine is getting better and better!
I’m a fan of small indie bands from Great Britain – the quality is usually incredibly good and sometimes you’re actually lucky enough to see “the next big thing” much earlier. and that’s why we quickly sprinted back to the tent stage to “coach partyto see. Admittedly, the sound was a bit tinny at times, but otherwise the band really looked good on stage. And the light was always sensational in this small, dark tent cosmos!
and then something happened that we didn’t expect: it rained. and quite a lot. Exactly shortly before the start of the concert of the artist I really wanted to see. But as quickly as the rain came, it went away just as quickly and I rushed to the main stage to finally “bald yearto see!
Because of the rain she played a shortened set, but at least my favorite songs were there. and I enjoyed the way she performed so much: full of passion and almost dancing with her guitar. For me it was an absolutely perfect performance, for others who don’t listen to their music on a continuous loop it was probably a bit bland. That’s why: everyone listen to Anna Calvi, then you can enjoy her concerts as much as I do!
After Anna Calvi I took a break. played music in the tent “with“ and on the main stage shortly followingwards “giant rooks“. It wasn’t all that appealing to me, so I took time for a drink and another snack.
Afterwards we went back to the stage in the tent because “arlo parks“was next on my program. I was really excited to see what it would be like for her, as a budding world star, in little Linz. But she was in a good mood, grinning and hissing from one end of the stage to the other and singing her wonderful songs for us. But sometimes in just a few moments I had the feeling that the Lido Sounds audience wasn’t ready for them yet. Anyway, I was happy that I might finally see them live!
we quickly scurried to “alt-j“ to the main stage but within one song it was clear: we have to get out of here once more. It started to rain heavily and the performance was interrupted. we took shelter and waited. This time the break in the rain felt like it lasted forever, also because it was quite heavy this time.
A little later the concert by “Alt-J” continued. However, many visitors were soaked and somehow it wasn’t as much fun as hoped. The fact that it was still pretty bright wasn’t conducive to alt-j either. Their shows are particularly effective when it is dark, because their show consists largely of a light spectacle – they themselves just stand rigid on the stage. The band might have been better off in the tent.
Overall the concert was nice anyway, but nothing special. A year earlier in Vienna’s Metastadt they were still an absolute highlight – but it was also dark there. Whatever – it will be better next time!
Yes, it was a constant running back and forth between the stages – if you wanted to see everything, you really had to rush to get from one end of the area to the other. So we sprinted back to the tent stage as quickly as we might, because “interpolwere the next item on the program.
Interpol, like Alt-J, is also a band that doesn’t move and that only lives from their light show, but luckily they played on the right stage and had absolutely the right setlist with them. Older indie fans got their money’s worth, it was an indie party like back then. And the light show was an absolute highlight anyway, the whole tent shook and the band celebrated. and I, I was happy because I had only seen Interpol the weekend before at the Best Kept Secret Festival and was now able to enjoy it once more. That’s how I like my festival summers!
And then we had actually already reached the end of the first day of the Lido Sounds festival. the concert of “florence & the machine“marked the big finale on the opening day. It was no longer possible to get to the front, many fans literally camped in front of the stage the entire day (with brief evacuation due to the rain). So we saw the show from a little further back and were impressed from there too.
Florence had a following like Nick Cave, she was always looking for contact with the audience and everything was somehow full of veils and flowers. It was more of a mass, a homage to Florence. She performed all of her hits, from “Ship to Wreck” to “Dog Days are Over” to “You Got the Love,” “Shake It Ou” and “Rabbit Heart.” All fans and non-essential fans got their money’s worth!
Finally, I have to say that I found it particularly nice on this day of the festival that so many female artists took to the stage and were completely convincing! The area might offer more protection from sun and rain, but in Austria you have to be happy that a festival like this even exists. The departure by car was very pleasant and I was able to fall happily into my bed in the early hours of the morning!
