DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The small, oil-rich country of Kuwait imposed widespread power outages in several residential areas on Sunday despite soaring summer temperatures in the desert emirate.

State news agency KUNA attributed the outage to a “fuel supply disruption” that brought desalination plants and some power plants offline.

Kuwait is expected to hit a maximum temperature of 43 degrees Celsius (109 degrees Fahrenheit) on Sunday. Forecasters warned that wind chills could reach 53°C (127°F) and the air quality would be poor.
