At the beginning of the followingnoon, a walker alerted another person who was nearby to tell them that a plaque was floating on the surface of the Scheldt. As they approached a little closer, the two people saw a red vehicle sinking. They called 112 directly.
On site, divers from Comines were dispatched with reinforcements from firefighters from Mouscron and Tournai as well as the local police from Pecq. No information filters and it is impossible to say if people are on board the vehicle.
But a resident of rue du Rivage thinks he knows what happened. “That night, a man and a woman were arguing violently. The girl shouted: ‘You almost killed me, I have a kid.’ I immediately called the police. Quickly on the scene, they looked everywhere without finding anything. Both people were soaked. But with the car in the water…”.
Around 3:30 p.m., the firefighters had finished their work. They brought the car back to the bank, and confirmation came: no casualties to report. It is a repairer who will probably come to collect the carcass, it is no longer the responsibility of the Picardy Wallonia emergency zone.
