Launching a campaign to monitor state vehicles.

The authorities launched a campaign to monitor service vehicles to verify that they are being used for professional rather than personal purposes, after photos and videos spread on social media documenting the inappropriate use of government vehicles. Some of the circulated photos show these vehicles parked in beach garages and on holidays.

Al Sabah reported that instructions were given to security and gendarmerie personnel to ensure that service vehicles are used for administrative tasks, noting that these vehicles have become a source of drain on the state budget.

The tightening of control over the use of these vehicles falls within the framework of rationalizing expenditures and providing financial margins for the budget, in order to finance programs with a social dimension. The cost of service vehicles is not limited to fuel, but also includes maintenance, repair and new acquisition expenses. Maintenance work costs no less than 480 million dirhams (48 billion centimes), and an average of 170 million dirhams (17 billion centimes) is allocated annually to purchase new vehicles, which raises the total annual cost of the state’s vehicle fleet to 165 billion centimes.

According to available official data, the state vehicle fleet in Morocco exceeds 184 thousand cars or vehicles, noting that the number of employees does not exceed 900, including those working in local communities, which represents one vehicle for every 5 employees, and thus Morocco occupies the first place.

The campaign, which was launched recently, seeks to limit the squandering of state budget funds for personal purposes, which could be considered a waste of public funds, and to limit the negligence that characterizes the use of these vehicles designated for the public interest.
