The album features both 20th and 21st-century compositions, showcasing the breadth and depth of Latvian musical expression.Musicologist Orest Silabriedis,in his introduction to the album booklet,beautifully captures the essence of this artistic fusion: “Laura Zariņa and Agnes Egliņa’s vertebrae as spinal vertebrae contain miniature miniatures of the classic Lucy Garuta,and they almost regularly make the compositions of modern authors,three of which were made specifically at Laura Zarina’s call.”

Violinist Laura zariņa,the driving force behind this project, shares the album’s central purpose: “The music and texts chosen tell about the speckled challenges and return to the hope,the choice and being for yourself,” she explains. “The emergence of this album is the fruit of different life turns, in front of love for Latvian culture, nature, people. A new journey has begun – focusing on women’s work, and rejoicing at the responsiveness of me to compose new opuses.”

Laura Zariņa: Thank you for having me.I’ve always been deeply connected to Latvian culture,and I’ve seen how our musical traditions have evolved over time. I wanted to create an album that reflects this journey,showcasing the beauty of our heritage while also highlighting the amazing talent of today’s female composers.
Archyde: One of the album’s standout features is the fusion of Lucy Garuta’s timeless compositions with contemporary works. Can you tell us more about the creative process behind this fusion?
Laura Zariņa: Orest Silabriedis, our musicologist, has done an extraordinary job of preserving and promoting Latvian musical heritage. His insights into Lucy Garuta’s work were invaluable in creating a cohesive narrative between the past and present. We worked closely together to ensure that each piece complementary the next, creating a musical journey that transcends time.
