Lavrov defines the main mission of BRICS during Russia’s presidency of the group

Russia – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that one of the main tasks of Russia’s presidency of the BRICS group this year is to launch alternative payment platforms for Western systems.

The Russian Foreign Minister said, in an interview with “Sputnik”, “Komsomolskaya Pravda” and “Govorit Moskva” (Moscow Speaks) radio stations today, Friday: “At last year’s summit, the BRICS finance ministers and central banks were tasked with preparing recommendations on alternative payment platforms.” These platforms are necessary to secure economic relations (among the countries of the group), and work is underway in this framework.”

The BRICS group is moving to expand payments not tied to the dollar, as the group’s countries seek to move away from the SWIFT banking correspondence system, which is controlled by the United States.

The plans of the group, which includes Russia, China, Brazil, South Africa, India, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Egypt and Ethiopia, include establishing an international payment system “BRICS Pay” based on “Blockchain” technology, that is, on the basis of digital assets.

In light of the United States’ use of the dollar as a tool in sanctions and the American public debt reaching an astronomical level, countries in the world, led by the BRICS countries, are working to increase the use of national currencies in international trade.
