Lavrov meets with Guterres on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly

The Secretary-General’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, stated earlier that Lavrov and Guterres will discuss the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the situation in Ukraine, in addition to a number of other global issues at the meeting.

Lavrov met with the heads of the foreign ministries of Bolivia, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Mali, the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, and the head of the ruling Presidential Council in Yemen.

The Russian Foreign Minister discussed with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, bilateral cooperation between the two countries and resolving crises in the Middle East and North Africa.

Lavrov and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, also held a meeting on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the two sides discussed issues on the regional agenda and paid special attention to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East.

During a meeting on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Russian Foreign Minister and Commissioner-General of the Palestinian Refugees Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, also stressed the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Last Tuesday, the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly opened in New York, and the Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly session is headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
