Since the start of 2023, 26 cases of leptospirosis have been reported to the ARS, all of them men between 24 and 70 years old (average age 51): 18 were hospitalized, including 5 in intensive care. Among these 26 cases, 14 resided in the southern sector of the island.

With the recent episodes of heavy rains, it is feared that the number of leptospirosis cases will increase in the coming weeks. Also, ARS Reunion recommends that the population increase vigilance during this rainy period and protect themselves by implementing simple actions.
