ATLANTA, Ga. – The Liberty men’s tennis team was triumphant in two of six matches at the GT Invite. Liberty is one of seven teams at the three-day event including premiere programs, Georgia, Alabama, New Mexico and others. All matches are played at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

Rafael Marques Da Silva and Thando Longwe-Smit were paired together and topped Alabama’s duo of Matias Ponce DeLeon and Yair Sarouk.

Marques Da Silva earned a 2-0 Saturday, coming back following dropping a first set tiebreak to best Georgia’s Niels Ratiu, 6-7 (7), 6-1, 6-2.

With his two wins today, Marques Da Silva evens his record at the event, 2-2. The senior earned a measure of revenge in his doubles match. Marques Da Silva fell in his doubles match Friday to Ponce De Leon, 6-2, 6-3.

The Flames were winless in all other matches on Saturday.

Thought from Head coach Derek Schwandt

“Rafael did an outstanding job of setting the tone for the team today with how hard he competed especially following dropping a tough first set.”
