TRIPOLI, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) — Libya’s Department for Combating Illegal Immigration deported 147 illegal migrants to their country of origin, Nigeria, on Monday.

“On Monday, December 4, at the deportation office and on the orders of the Attorney General of Libya, a group of 147 illegal migrants from Nigeria were deported via Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport to their country,” Fat’hi said Shnebbu, head of the Department’s information and documentation office, in a video posted on the Department’s Facebook page.

He said the deported migrants included 122 women and 25 men.

“These migrants were involved in criminal groups and committed crimes of drug trafficking, firearms trafficking and prostitution,” he added.

Libya has become a preferred departure point for migrants wishing to reach Europe following the outbreak of internal conflicts in the country in 2011.
