Linescio TI: 27-year-old dies after canyoning accident in the Maggia Valley

Fatal canyoning accident in the Maggia Valley: A 27-year-old man from the Netherlands, who suffered a sports accident in Linescio on Good Friday, died as a result of his injuries. This was announced by the Ticino cantonal police on Saturday evening.

The man, who lives in the canton of Graubünden, had been traveling with a companion on the Rovana River in the Maggia Valley at around 5.30 p.m. the day before. For reasons that are still unclear, he got stuck in a water shaft while abseiling.

The man was rescued by his companion, who brought him to shore and alerted the emergency services, the Ticino police said on Saturday. Rescuers from the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) from Locarno and Rega employees tried to revive the victim with a cardiac massage before taking him to the hospital.
