Lionel Messi crowned best player of 2022 by Fifa

Argentinian world champion Lionel Messi won the award for the best player for the year 2022 at the ‘Fifa Best’ Trophies ceremony on Monday in Paris.

Messi (35) received this distinction for the third time following 2009 and 2019, succeeding Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, victorious in 2020 and 2021. Winner of the World Cup with Argentina last December, the sevenfold Ballon d’Or, decisive in this quest for the title, succeeds Robert Lewandowski on the list.

The PSG player is ahead of his teammate Kylian Mbappé and the Ballon d’Or Karim Benzema.

Among the ladies, Spanish striker Alexia Putellas was crowned best player of the year 2022.

Putellas, Ballon d’Or in 2021 and 2022 and already crowned by Fifa in 2021, beat Beth Mead, European champion with England last year, and American Alex Morgan.
