Loire Valley Wines: Chartres Paulée Market 2026 – Date & Details

by James Carter Senior News Editor

Chartres, France, is preparing to once again become a celebration of Loire Valley wines on Sunday, March 22nd. The 21st edition of the Paulée des vins de Loire, known for its diverse flavors, will bring together passionate winemakers, knowledgeable enthusiasts, and curious visitors to Place Billard for a convivial celebration of the region’s viticultural heritage. The event promises a vibrant showcase of wines from across the Loire Valley, from Sancerrois to Anjou and Touraine.

Rooted in the traditions of Burgundy’s “paulée” – festive banquets marking the end of the harvest – this event has taken on a unique character in the Loire Valley, celebrating the exceptional diversity of its vineyards. Attendees can expect to sample a wide range of appellations, including Muscadet, Saumur-Champigny, Vouvray, and Chinon, reflecting the extraordinary variety of the Loire region. The Paulée des vins de Loire aims to both promote local wines and open the festivities to a wider audience.

A Celebration of Loire Valley Terroir

The Paulée des vins de Loire transforms the traditional vegetable market hall into a hub of oenological excitement. Dozens of domaines will be present, offering tastings of their latest vintages. Visitors can wander from stand to stand, engaging with generous winemakers eager to share their expertise and passion for the terroir. A tasting glass is available for purchase at the entrance for 6 euros, unlocking access to the numerous offerings.

This year’s event features a curated selection of around thirty winemakers from across the Val de Loire, chosen by Nathalie and Bertrand Jallerat of Grand Monarque, Nicolas Duclos, sommelier at Grand Monarque, and the Paulée des Vins de Loire association. According to Bertrand Jallerat, the Paulée provides a unique opportunity to acquire bottles that are difficult to find throughout the year, directly from the producers.

A Culinary Pairing with Coastal Influences

Beyond the wine, the Paulée des vins de Loire will offer a culinary experience designed to complement the featured wines. Restaurateurs, producers, and artisans will collaborate to create memorable flavor pairings. This year’s event will highlight the influence of the sea, with Mathieu Guibert, a two-Michelin-starred chef, as the guest of honor.

Chef Guibert, whose restaurant Anne de Bretagne is located on the coast, is known for his cuisine that emphasizes the flavors of the ocean. In his honor, the 2026 edition of the Paulée will be dedicated to seafood, featuring a large seafood display at Place Billard and a signature dish created by Chef Guibert. This focus on coastal flavors adds a unique dimension to the wine festival, creating a harmonious blend of terroir and gastronomy.

The Paulée des vins de Loire is more than just a wine tasting; it’s a festive and accessible event that fosters a sense of community and shared appreciation for the region’s viticultural heritage. It has become an annual highlight for wine lovers and those seeking a taste of the Loire Valley’s rich culture.

The Marché de la Paulée des Vins de Loire will take place on Sunday, March 22nd, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Place Billard in Chartres, organized by Grand Monarque and the Commune Libre de Saint-Brice. More information can be found about Chartres and the Loire Valley region.

As the Paulée des vins de Loire continues to grow in popularity, it solidifies its position as a key event for promoting the wines of the Loire Valley and attracting visitors to the region.
