When a few minutes following 4 p.m. the red bar on the huge monitor in the Carinthian SPÖ headquarters rose, the nervousness was palpable. After the bar stopped, disappointment and bewilderment might be seen on some faces: The foursome was not achieved, Peter Kaiser remained below his target of making 40 percent plus.
