The Municipality of Chillán gave the Lucero Sports Club, from the Luis Cruz Martínez Town, a strong boost by providing the Nelson Oyarzún Arenas stadium for it to debut at home, in the preliminary phase of the Chile Cup 2024, on April 29, at 8:00 p.m., facing Juvenil Seminario de Talca.
“We are happy because the fact that a local amateur soccer club can represent us in this instance is a dream. That is why we are strongly supporting this instance. The club has done things very well, with a leadership that works with discipline, where the family, the women participate, with a high-level performance. We are going to provide infrastructure for the team that has a great mystique, feel what it is like to play at a high level. This is an epic achievement and we hope it does well with everyone’s support,” stressed the mayor of Chillán, Camilo Benavente.

“Being the first team from Chillán to play in the Chile Cup is beautiful. The management of the municipality is appreciated, because when we asked for their support they were immediately open. It is essential, since although the ANFP invites us to play the Chile Cup, we have to have the support of the Municipality for the Safe Stadium issue. There are many things that we need to have and the municipality gave us,” said Ricardo Ferrada, president of Deportivo Lucero, gratefully.
“We are proud because Lucero will represent us in the Chile Cup. I want to thank Mayor Camilo Benavente and his team because they have always been willing to help amateur soccer,” highlighted Carlos San Martín, helmsman of ANFA Chillán.
The captain of the Lucero honor series, Miguel Cartes added that “it is a beautiful, rewarding event, a dream. The idea is to advance to the next phase, go compete, do a good job to raise the name of the Luis Cruz population. Martínez and Chillán”.
“The support of the Municipality of Chillán, of the entire community, is important, because it is a unique instance. Representing Lucero in this Chile Cup is a pride and a dream,” stressed José Lagos, who was champion of the Chile Cup in 2015, when he played at the University of Concepción, although he also wore the shirt of Fernández Vial and Deportes Concepción.
Mónica Nova, representative of the “Tías Lucerinas”, who carry out tireless and silent work in the minor series, highlighted that “this is something unique, we never imagined winning a regional, playing a National and now playing the Chile Cup. “We are happy with the support of the Municipality of Chillán because we represent Ñuble.”
Lucero’s honor series comes from being local champion, fourth regional in the National South Zone and semi-finalist in the Ñuble Regional. Now he wants to leave his mark in the historic Chile Cup.
