LUMA Energy assures that it begins to restore the electric power service in some places in Puerto Rico

The company LUMA Energy indicated tonight that it began to restore the electric power service in some parts of Puerto Rico following a massive blackout that occurred on Wednesday night following a fire was reported at the Costa Sur power plant, located in Guayanilla.

What do we know so far?

  • The Electric Power Authority indicated that restoring the system might take regarding 12 hours.
  • The Bureau of the Puerto Rico Fire Department indicated that the incident that occurred in Costa Sur has already been extinguished.
  • LUMA Energy reported that “we have begun to restore service on the southeast side of the island (Yabucoa)”, and in addition, the first distribution circuit was restored in that town.
  • The consortium in charge of the transmission and distribution system of the country’s electrical system confirmed at 9:36 pm the “massive blackout throughout the island” although it accepted that, at that time, it was not “clear regarding the exact cause.”
