Ma Ying-jeou’s visit to the Chinese mainland is of positive significance in promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations

A spokeswoman for the Chinese mainland said Wednesday that the visit of Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the Kuomintang Party of China, to the Chinese mainland is of positive significance in promoting exchanges among compatriots across the Taiwan Strait and the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, made the remarks at a press conference.

Ma’s visit to the Chinese mainland reflects the common aspirations of compatriots across the Taiwan Strait for peace, development, exchanges and cooperation, and is of positive significance in promoting exchanges between cross-strait compatriots and the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, Zhu said.

Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities colluded with outside forces and made provocative acts to seek “Taiwan independence”, which greatly undermined the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, harmed the interests and well-being of compatriots across the Strait, and jeopardized peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, she noted.
