Maatouk as coach of the Syrian national team after the dismissal of Roman Tita

The interim committee that runs the Syrian football federation announced on Wednesday the appointment of Ghassan maatouq as head coach of the national team, a week following the dismissal of Romanian Valerio Tita for poor results in World Cup qualifiers.

The committee said in a statement: “the interim committee of the Syrian Arab Football Federation has decided to name Mr. Iyad mandou as the manager of the first national team and captain Ghassan Ma’touq as the coach of the team.. This is in preparation for the next two games of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers once morest Lebanon and Iraq on the twenty-fourth and twenty-ninth of March”.

Tita lost his job following only three months in charge “because of his failure to provide the desired addition to our team, which suffered losses to both the UAE and South Korea and officially bid farewell to the World Cup qualifiers”, according to the statement of the Syrian Federation of the game.

Syria lost 2-2 to the UAE and then fell to South Korea in Dubai to finish in Group A in the final stage of Asian World Cup qualifying without a win in eight games.

Tita took over in November, succeeding Nizar mahrousse. The Romanian coach previously led the Syrian national team between 2010 and 2011 and also coached the Union and police clubs in Syria, in addition to Sharjah, the UAE, Al Faisali, Jordan, Al Nasr, Kuwait, Safa, the Lebanese star, students and the Iraqi port.
