The film crews of Madame Webnew episode of the soap opera Sony Pictures on the outskirts of the franchise Spider-Man, touched down. This new production, freely adapted from the character of Cassandra Webb/Julia Carpentersettled in Boston for the first scenes planned on the agenda according to the specialized body Production Weekly (a referencing agent in charge of announcing current filming sites and announcing job offers and possible needs). Shooting will take place between July and October in three different locations: Boston, New York and Mexico.

More interesting, the detail delivered by Production Weekly highlights some of the gray areas around this project, especially on the thinking heads side. First, we learn that Lorenzo di Bonaventura (via son studio, Di Bonaventura Pictures) will be part of the producers on this new adaptation. No need to disguise the figures: it is not strictly speaking good news. In the past, Di Bonaventura Pictures has been guilty of a fairly substantial number of B series, or raucous co-productions only supported by an imperative of series explosions – in the heap, the franchise G.I. Joe until the recent movie Snake Eyesthe film The Megthe different Transformers until Bumblebeeboth films Redand the dreadful series Jupiter’s Legacy. Not exactly a convincing track record, although a few nice titles wander through their catalog (Only the Brave of Joseph Kosinski, The Last Stand of Kim Jee-woon).
The production company will complete a kind of triumvirate assembled around Sony Pictures and of Marvel Studioswhich will indeed be part of the adventure willingly or by force. Eric Howsmana regular at Di Bonaventura Pictures recently went through the filming of Snake Eyes, will also be part of the production team. In writing, the names of Matt Sazama and the aptly named Burk Sharplessscreenwriters of Morbiushad already been announced, and adds a third feather: the author/director Dear Sangaresponsible for a few small feature films on the independent market (First Girl I Loved, The Young Kielowski). This hiring alone constitutes a potential element of surprise in a relatively disappointing overall package.
But, the good surprises exist (perhaps), and we will wait to judge on parts the strange adventure currently in gestation, and that Sony Pictures likes to present as his answer to the movies Doctor Strange of Marvel Studios.
Madame Web is expected for July 7, 2023 in the United States (and therefore July 5, 2023 in France, following the usual order of cinema releases).
