⁢##⁣ California: ‍a Day of Earthquakes and Tragedy

**Interviewer:** Welcome back to the news. Today we’re ⁣discussing two major events that have deeply shaken California. First, a powerful earthquake off the⁤ northern coast triggered tsunami warnings,⁢ causing widespread anxiety and⁤ some damage.

And then, later in ‌the day, tragedy struck⁢ a school in Oroville, leaving two kindergarteners critically injured in a shooting.

To learn more, I’m joined by Dr. Emily Carter, a seismologist and ⁤disaster⁢ preparedness ‌expert. Dr. Carter, thank you‌ for ⁤joining us.

**Dr. Carter:** My pleasure.

**Interviewer:** Let’s start with the earthquake. ⁤‍ This was a significant tremor, wasn’t it?

**Dr. Carter:** Absolutely. ‌A 7.0 magnitude earthquake is quite powerful. Fortunately, it hit offshore, reducing the impact on land. However, the tsunami warnings ‍issued understandably caused a‍ lot of fear. It’s a reminder how important ‌it is to⁤ be prepared for these kinds of ‍events.

**Interviewer:**

Can you explain the difference between⁢ an‌ initial earthquake reading and the later ‍revision?

**Dr. Carter:**

Certainly.

The ⁣initial readings⁢ are preliminary, and they‌ can be adjusted later as more data ‌becomes available. In this case, further analysis ⁢by the ‌USGS ⁤confirmed the magnitude to be a 7.0, highlighting the immense force of ‌the quake.
